Dig History
The Burke Museum has video of me digging at West Point! This is a great presentation put together by the Burke Museum describing the archaeology of West Point, in Seattle.
This is the first job I had as a professional archaeologist, and I worked on this project in the field and in the lab for one year. In the video clips I'm usually wearing a turquoise turtleneck. I met my husband while working on this dig, and so I get misty-eyed watching the clips. Yes, I cry watching sewage treatment plant videos. Doesn't everyone? |
I have been actively pursuing a writing career since 2004, the year I finished the first draft of Murder in Situ. Of course, like any newbie writer, I thought my first draft brilliant. It wasn’t until after the draft was completed that I began attending writing workshops. There I discovered just how far I had to go to make the book readable by someone who didn’t know and love me.
In 2006 I was amazingly lucky when New York Times bestselling author Jill Barnett hired me to work as her assistant. One job perk was intensive critiquing from an absolute master. Jill has been generous with her wisdom and vicious with her red pen, and I am so grateful to have her as my mentor and friend. You can visit Jill’s website at www.jillbarnett.com.

The evening commute back to the campsite after a long day of excavation. |
